SYNOPSIS/DESCRIPTION:
For the first time in decades, New Opera NYC presents a new production of the opera “Golden Cockerel” by N.Rimsky-Korsakov, the 15th and the last opera of the composer. It is based on a faux fairytale by a great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin and set to a libretto by Vladimir Belsky.

“Golden Cockerel” is a corner stone of the Russian opera heritage. It has enjoyed international success ever since the premiere in 1909.
However, “Golden Cockerel” has not been staged in NYC in many years.

SIGN & SING: EXPLORATIONS

SYNOPSIS/DESCRIPTION:
Will the statue of Venus come alive? Can the vagabond find a travel companion? SIGN & SING's "EXPLORATIONS" examines three stories of love and travel, reimagining great works of classical music in sung English and American Sign Language. These works - Heggie and McNally's "At the Statue of Venus," Vaughn Williams and Stevenson's "Songs of Travel," and Elgar's "Sea Pictures" – will be performed on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 2pm at Symphony Space. Open captions and assisted listening devices will be provided.

SIGN & SING is a nonprofit performance program that integrates American Sign Language (ASL) and classical music in order to elevate storytelling in an operatic and recital environment. The company produces concerts annually at Symphony Space as well as commissions new operatic experiences that discuss accessibility, communication, and human connection
